Roberto Clemente Award

We are humbled and excited to announce that Clayton has been selected as the 2012 Robert Clemente Award recipient. This evening, Clayton and Ellen are at the 4th game of the World Series to receive the award. Thank you for your support, encouragement and votes! As Clayton said this evening, this award is such an honor because of what it represents. "Just being associated with someone like Roberto Clemente is truly humbling and I am extremely grateful."

Our sincere gratitude to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Major League Baseball and the Roberto Clemente family. To all the friends of Kershaw's Challenge--thank you for joining us on this journey. Tonight is such a special night and we are especially thankful for you.

Roberto Clemente Nomination

Dear Friends,

Clayton has been nominated by the Dodgers for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, given annually to the MLB player who "best exemplifies the game of baseballsportsmanshipcommunity involvement and the individual's contribution to his team". What an incredible opportunity to spread the word on Kershaw's Challenge and the incredible children's charities we get to partner with!

One component of the selection is the “fan vote”…and that’s where we need your help to vote for Clayton.  Please go to the link:

Scroll down to the National League nominees and find Clayton Kershaw.  You can only vote once!

Clayton has had another great season with the Dodgers and we are so thankful for your encouragement along the way.  What a blessing to watch the Lord use him to make a difference in the lives of children everywhere by simply using the platform of baseball...amazing.
Thanks so much for voting and passing this message along to others!
We will post a blog update soon on the orphanage progress, and our upcoming trip to Zambia. Also, during the holiday season, you can make a donation on behalf of someone as a gift. We will send you Christmas cards to send out to others explaining that a donation has been made on their behalf. Tis the Season to give to others!
More on the Roberto Clemente Award:

The Roberto Clemente Award is given annually to the MLB player who "best exemplifies the game of baseballsportsmanshipcommunity involvement and the individual's contribution to his team", as voted on by baseball fans and members of the media. It is named for Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente.

Originally known as the Commissioner's Award, it has been presented by the MLB since 1971. In 1973, the award was renamed after Clemente following his death in a plane crash while delivering supplies to victims of the Nicaragua earthquake.

Each year, a panel of baseball dignitaries selects 1 player from 30 nominees, one from each club. Teams choose their nominee during the regular season, and the winner is announced at the World Series. The player who receives the most votes online via MLB's official website, MLB.com, gets one vote in addition to the votes cast by the panel.

BBQ & Hoedown pictures are here!

We had such an incredible evening at Dodger Stadium on August 2nd raising support and funds for Kershaw's Challenge! We thought we'd bring a little bit of our Texas roots to California by hosting a BBQ & Hoedown. Our main goal was sharing our heart and passion for Zambia and kids with those who attended, but we also wanted to make sure we treated them to a "boot scootin" good time! Our VIP reception took place in centerfield with cocktails & appetizers, while guests mingled with Dodger players. Once the hoedown began, we moved the party to a tented area in the centerfield parking lot. Guests walked the "blue carpet" as they entered a tent adorned with pictures from our trips to Zambia. We had fun for all ages- from line dancing, face painting and corn holing, to silent auction, raffle tickets, and incredible gourmet food. Kids painted artwork for the walls of Hope's Home as Steve Garvey revved the crowd up during an awesome live auction. With Dodger Dogs, popcorn, candy bar, and ice cream helmets filling everyone's craving for good ballpark food, the night turned into a Texas "honky tonk" featuring our favorite country singer- Grammy nominee Pat Green! We two-stepped the night away to his incredible country tunes. Once the raffle tickets were drawn and silent auction winners announced, everyone made their way out the door with a goodies filled "swag bag" (including a Kershaw's Challenge t-shirt, Arise book, CK bobble head, Cy Young replica, and more!) We are so appreciative of the Dodgers ownership and Dodger teammates for showing their support and participating in such a fun evening with us. Thank you all who bought tickets and came! We are excited to tell you that we raised all the funds needed to complete Hope's Home!
