Meet our 2021 Beneficiaries: BEB

Give a warm welcome to another one of our 2021 Beneficiaries, BEB, formerly known as Both Ends Believing. We are thrilled to partner with them again in 2021!

From BEB: “BEB is a global nonprofit that leverages a one-of-a-kind technology platform to help children living as orphans unite with loving families. BEB works to bring an end to the systemic challenges that keep the world’s most vulnerable children living as orphans. Millions of children around the world live as orphans needlessly. They languish for years in environments that pose a great risk to their social, emotional and cognitive development. The primary reason: Countries lack the digital infrastructure designed to create visibility into who these children are, where they come from and how they might be moved to a better future.

BEB works to bring an end to the systemic challenges that keep these children languishing in institutions, ensuring every child the chance to grow and flourish in a loving family. Collaborating with country authorities around the world, BEB is able to bridge the technology gap with Children First Software, known as CFS. CFS follows the principles of the Hague Convention, guiding authorities through a five-phase process that begins with the creation of a child’s digital profile and continues even after the child is reunited with relatives or adopted.”

This year, Kershaw’s Challenge is honored to serve as the “Family Forever Sponsor” for BEB (formerly Both Ends Believing) in the Dominican Republic. In 2021, we long to continue their mission to ensure that every child in the DR knows the love and care of a family. Our contribution would cover the Children First Software implementation and support development and other annualized costs.

As the Dominican Republic and Haiti share borders, the DR government finds itself caring for many vulnerable children who have migrated from Haiti, putting a strain on DR’s entire child welfare system. We believe that actively expanding our work in Haiti will not only benefit its children but also those in the DR. Our contribution to BEB would allow them to implement the Children First Software in the country of Haiti.

Check out some recent updates from the BEB team:

  • BEB is seeing great progress around the world as our goal is to equip countries to move their children from institutions to loving families.

  • BEB has an on-the-ground team in each country where they operate. While many countries have prohibited children's home visits due to COVID, they are encouraged that some are re-opening. For example, their team in Honduras has started to travel to the field, visit the children's homes, and continue to enter children's cases into Children First Software.

  • BEB began implementation of CFS in Guatemala this year. Despite virtual work environments, they believe that BEB and the government will be able to register all children living in government children's homes by the end of 2021.

  • Their goal this year is not only to engage more countries in using CFS but also to accelerate the placement of all children into families. We are thrilled to share that due to Kershaw's Challenge funding BEB's work in the Dominican Republic, the success of the DR is catalyzing the expansion of CFS to new countries!
